Steve (occasionally referred to as Mr. Minecraft in-game) is an unlockable guest character in Super Meat Boy, exclusive to the PC versions of the game.
Gameplay[]
To place or remove blocks, the player has to press the arrow keys or the analog stick in the direction they want to place/remove a block and press the run button (PC: Shift, Xbox: X/RT). Steve can only place/break terrain elements, not hazards.
Con: No running. This makes him useless in some Rapture levels like "Rise" (If you want A+). Also if you want the achievement of completing a world without dying, you can't use him.
Requirements: 100 bandages
Achievement: "Accidental Arsonist"
The Steve artwork shows a brown and green block, this one being the Grass block.
When you die, the Minecraft death sound plays.
Bugs[]
- If you switch to another character after placing / deleting blocks the changes will still remain. They only switch back after death.
- This can be used to get around the leaderboard restriction.
- If you get out of Play Mode in the Level Editor, the changes will also still remain. They again, will only switch back after death.
- If you save the level however, the changes will be permanent.
- Steve is prone to random crashes.
- Getting rid of lock blocks requires you to mine them twice. But otherwise functions normally.
- Despite completion being locked off with Steve. You can still enter Warp Zones with him. Completing the Warp Zone does increase completion percentage, but you will have to find the warp zone again to replay it. Having the Warp Zone on the map does not account for the 106%, only completing it.
Trivia[]
- Although Steve can run as of Minecraft version Beta 1.8, he still cannot run in Super Meat Boy, because placing/breaking blocks replaces it.
- According to Notch, Steve is 1.8 meters tall, which doesn't seem to be the case in Super Meat Boy.
- In Super Meat Boy, he was originally called "Mr. Minecraft".
- Him, Tim and Meat Ninja are the only characters that prevent you from leaderboards and achievements.
- Tofu Boy also prevents you from getting achievements.
