Saw blades are a hazard that appears in every Meat Boy game, first appearing in Meat Boy. They are the most basic and common obstacles in the series and are typically included as part of the series' iconography.
History[]
Meat Boy + Meat Boy (Map Pack)[]
Saw blades are the first obstacle introduced in Meat Boy, also appearing in its Map Pack expansion. They first appear in 5. Windows, but don't appear as actual hazards until 6. BZZZZZ. In this game, they are roughly the same size as Meat Boy and other characters, and function as part of the tile set. Contact with a saw blade will kill Meat Boy.
A saw blade variant, the appearing saw blade, also appears in this game.
Super Meat Boy[]
Saw blades appear as the first obstacle introduced in Super Meat Boy. One first appears in 1-2 Upward as decoration, but they only truly become hazards in 1-6 Bladecatcher. In this game, they are independent of the tile set and are almost always much bigger than Meat Boy. Otherwise, they are functionally identical. Sawblades in Hell and 8-bit and 4-color Warp Zones have unique designs. In this game, saw blades will accrue blood if they touch Meat Boy. Spinny saws appear as a variant to saw blades.
Super Meat Boy Forever[]
Sawblades return in Super Meat Boy Forever, first appearing in Hello World. They are functionally identical to their appearance in the first game. Sawblades in The Other Side have unique designs. In this game, both blood and bandages will accrue on saw blades on contact with Meat Boy and Bandage Girl respectively.
Dr. Fetus' Mean Meat Machine[]
Sawblades also appear in Dr. Fetus' Mean Meat Machine as a primary obstacle. They first appear in World 0-1, becoming hazards in World 0-2. They destroy any clones or blocks on contact.
Trivia[]
