Dr. Fetus used samples of his past experiences with Meat Boy in order to replicate his DNA, but his first multiple batches of clones were imperfect, taking various shapes and colors. After a series of simulations to synthesize these clones, they slowly started looking like the real Meat Boy.
Though there may be more to the project, it appears that Dr. Fetus is creating these clones simply to kill them out of his unbridled hatred of Meat Boy.
During gameplay of Super Meat Boy Forever, small, hovering drones can often be seen; they follow the player character, but never interact with them. As it turns out, these drones are cameras that Dr. Fetus has used to get data on Meat Boy and Bandage Girl's skills in the hopes to use said data to create clones of Meat Boy.
