Chapter 3 Light World

The Salt Factory is the third chapter in Super Meat Boy. It takes place in a massive complex that produces salt. Hazards in this chapter include saw blades, rocket launchers and piles of salt.

After beating at least 17 levels, Meat Boy has to battle against Brownie, where they race to the top of the factory while being pursued by a rising wave of salt. After this, Hell will be unlocked.

The intro cutscene of the chapter is a reference to the intro of Adventures of Lolo for the NES.

Trivia

  • "Can o' Salt" is going to be a playable song, which can be downloaded from the Rock Band Network. This also applies to "The Battle of Lil' Slugger" and "Betus Blues RETRO".
  • The Salt Factory, along with The Forest and Hell is one of the areas to appear in the Flash game Meat Boy that reappeared in Super Meat Boy. The Light World uses a remixed version of The Salt Factory theme from the original Meat Boy.
  • The name and artwork of the title screen of the warp zone "Cartridge Dump" is a reference to the infamous 1982 E.T. the Extraterrestrial game, which besides being considered one of the important factors in the 1983 U.S. video game crash, is confirmed to have many copies buried in a New Mexico landfill (therefore, "cartridge dump").
  • The startup image for "Cartridge Dump" was changed in the XBOX version.
