The Gap is the third level of the first chapter of Super Meat Boy. It is the first level that poses a threat of dying but is still very easy. It serves to introduce sprinting to the player, requiring it to get over the gap.
Sprint and jump over the gap, but be wary of the sawblades.

Doing this stage optimally is very straight forward, just hold the run button and right, and jump when you are near the ledge. The only possible issue would be overshooting your jump and landing behind Bandage Girl, which could mess you up and make you lose half a second or so depending on your reaction time. This level should take about 1.48 seconds. You may also use Spelunky Guy's divebomb to finish the stage from 1.20 seconds to possibly under a second if timed perfectly.
Bzzzzz is the dark world counterpart of The Gap, unlocked by getting an A+ on the light world. It is the same, but it has a block with two sawblades on the top and bottom of it in the middle of the gap, and a sawblade on the top, making the player wall-jump off the block, then over. It also has a pink background. Bzzzzz contains the first dark world bandage, which is very easy to get, just by jumping very close to the middle sawblade.
A+ time: 10.00
Dark World StrategyEdit
There are rather few ways to win this stage. The most commonly used is to jump onto the middle platform, then leap back towards the metallic wall on the left, before making one last jump towards Bandage Girl. Otherwise, the player may wall jump off of the left side of the middle platform, and with enough maneuvering, land on the other side and wall jump to victory off it. In addition to the former strategy, the player may decide to wall jump off of the metallic platform on the right cliff, though this tends to be unnecessary. If you had unlocked a character that can jump in the air, then you can also go under the middle platform and double jump when you are right under the platform.
The fastest way to finish the level with Meat Boy is to wall-jump off the wall immediately left of your spawn up to the metallic wall on the left down to Bandage Girl. Yet again, try not to overshoot it. Since you accelerate slightly faster at the beginning of sliding up a wall than jumping as Meat Boy, you should first get close enough to the wall at the beginning to the point where you are nearly touching it, then wall jump off of it after you slide up about 2/3's up it, or about 4 blocks. This saves about 0.2 seconds from jumping onto the wall when you spawn. Optimally, the stage takes about 2.45 seconds to complete.
Alternately, the stage can be done in 1.70 seconds using The Kid's double jump. You can also use Spelunky Guy and jump right as you spawn down, then do your divebomb as you pass below the bottom saw's vertical height. You must jump off the cliff and not run off it at the beginning, because if you run off it, Spelunky Guy will jump in the air instead of divebombing. Also, doing the divebomb too early will make you hit the bottom saw. If you did the divebomb correctly, you should land on the green part of Bandage Girl's platform. Do a quick wall-jump off it and do another divebomb directly to Bandage Girl. If done correctly, you can get a time from between 1.60 to 1.45 seconds.
- You can actually get to bandage girl without sprinting by getting higher on the wall and then jumping.
